Robert Lee "Bobby" Sanders

Robert Lee “Bobby” Sanders, age 69, of Northport, AL, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Fuller Johnson; father, Murray Clayton Sanders; and step-mother, Peggy Sanders.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Carol Crump Sanders; sons, Robert Matthew Sanders (Sherri) and Bradford Patton Sanders (Amanda); sister, Gale Sanders McCormick (Lou); step-sisters, Rhonda Strickland (Ross) and Tracy Fulks (Jeff); step-brother, Mike Miller; uncle, James Fuller (Fidele); aunt, Merline Spivey; and grandchildren, Evan Sanders, Izzy Sanders, Les Sanders, Jack Sanders, and Edith Sanders.

Bobby served as a deputy with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, ultimately attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Tactical Unit and was named Officer of the Year in 1984.  He also served in the Alabama National Guard.

Bobby had a passion for construction and after retiring from the TCSO, started his second career as a home builder. 

If you knew Bobby, you knew he had a keen sense of humor. He enjoyed making people laugh.  He was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather.

The family wishes to express their utmost appreciation to his caregiver, Mr. Anthony Porter. The family also wishes to thank the nurses of Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. William Keith DeBell and Dr. Arash Arabi.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Humane Society of West Alabama or Hospice of West Alabama.
