Donald Rush Cox

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Rush Cox of Tuscaloosa, AL. After a long battle with colon cancer, he passed peacefully on June 25, 2025, at Hospice of West Alabama at the age of 73. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 1, at 3:00 pm at Big Hurricane Cemetery located at 11216 Big Hurricane Rd. Brookwood, AL 35444 with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel directing and Pastor KJ Pugh officiating.

Donnie was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Davis Hamner and his father, Rush Cox. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Jackie Rawlins Cox of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughters Angela Caffee (Greg) of Brookwood, AL, Kelli Cox of West Blocton, AL and Julie Kizziah (Tommy) of Fosters, AL; brothers Mike Cox (Mary Ann) of Fort Worth, TX and Max Hamner of Northport, AL; grandchildren Brandi Eaton, Hayden Caffee, Ava Caffee and Tommy Kizziah Jr; great-grandchildren Jaxon Eaton, Mia Eaton, Ariana Eaton, Kasen Driver, Trae Kizziah and Cooper Kizziah.

Donnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He led a life filled with love and dedication to his family. He was a 1971 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School where he enlisted in the United States Air Force his senior year. His first jobs included a Butcher, Insurance Sales and the Railroad. In 1971, he began active duty with the USAF and was stationed in Oscoda, Michigan. He then transferred to Thailand for 13 months, and worked in both location's as Military Police during the Vietnam Conflict. He returned to the States to Warner Robins, GA where he was honorably discharged. He worked and retired from BF Goodrich Company.

Pallbearers will be Greg Caffee, Hayden Caffee, Tommy Kizziah, Tommy Kizziah Jr., Bailey Eaton and Dudley Fair.

The family would also like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to friends and loved ones who supported Donnie with their prayers, visits and calls. We are sincerely grateful for those who provided care for him during his illness; the compassionate staff at Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Susan Bostic and the staff at Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center, Dr. Keith DeBell and Marilyn Fair.
