Donald Douglas “Doc” Hewitt, age 69 of Northport, Alabama passed away January 12, 2021 at DCH Medical Center. Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and burial at Sunset Memorial Park on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. with graveside service at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Billy Gray will be the officiant.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James “Jim” Hewitt and Vandie Watson Hewitt, a sister, Juanita Hewitt.

He is survived by the love of his life, Deborah Hewitt; his sons, Chris Shelby (Cindy), Brad Shelby (Stephanie), Gary Sampsell, and Andrew Sampsell (Miranda): his grandchildren of which he was so proud, Jake Shelby, Major Culp, William Shelby, Nathan (Bones) Shelby, and Caleb Sampsell; sister, Becky Cork (Jimmy), nieces, Denita Elder (Todd), Jimmie Ann Daniels (Richard); great niece Shelby Elder and great nephews, Weston and Hudson Daniels.

To know Donnie was to love him. He was usually the life of the party and always ready with a good joke to tell. He loved country music, traveling with friends, fishing, hunting, and Alabama Football. Most recently, Donnie really enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and supporting them in whatever they were doing. He spent over 40 years in the Auto Parts business where he made many long-lasting friendships. Donnie was loved by so many and was an inspiration to those he met.

Pallbearers will be Joe Hewitt, Bronson Englebert, Danny Long, Tommy Mason, Harold Barnes, Billy Jones, Tommy Knight, and Greg Bean.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in Donnie’s memory.
